In my quest for the perfect binoculars I stumbled across the Bushnell website (www.bushnell.com). I am sure that there are others, but it looks like they offer a wide range of durable and reliable binoculars with models for every type of activity.
Of course I was drawn to the description of their Instant Replay Digital model, but this is bit more expensive than I had in mind for my purposes. I generally only take binoculars along when I am hiking. Just in case we want to look at a new bird species or focus on that mountain goat that is always grazing on the next hill over from the one we are on. Otherwise we use them when we are offered tickets for the baseball game and end up sitting up in the rafters.
So, what is so special about the Instant Replay Digital model? It actually combines a camera and a pair of binoculars, and the picture you take will reflect what you actually see through the binoculars (just in case you need to prove that you really did see something exotic out there in the woods). The screen flips up for easy viewing and then can be folded down when you have the binoculars around your neck or in the case.
Sounds pretty neat but it costs more than $600 dollars so you would have to be a real enthusiast to justify the expense. What I am saying is don't buy a pair of binoculars for $20 or less if you want to do some serious viewing. Whether you are a sports fan, traveler, birder or nature lover you should shop carefully and buy the best piece of equipment that you can afford.
