“Everyone knows that it is
important to plan financially for retirement, but little attention is given to
what you are going to do with your time.
I thought that I had a lot of things to do. After 30 years of being
employed outside of the home I had a list of projects that seemed a mile
long. However, once I got my pictures
and recipes catalogued and my house cleaned, I found I was bored. So what did I do? I went back to work doing the same thing that
I was doing before I retired. Being idle doesn’t suit me, so this time I
started thinking about how I would fill my time the “next time” I retired. I have a background in business and accounting
so the idea of a home based business appealed.
I checked a number of options but with little success. Most of them were of the “too good to be true”
variety or what I consider to be scams.
Then I went to a Pampered
Chef Cooking Show. I not only fell in love with the product but I could see
that the person doing the demonstrations was having a great deal of fun. A little thought niggled at the back of my mind
that I might like to do something like that when I retired from my current
job. I didn’t say anything then, but did
agree to host a show. Once I had my
first show I was hooked. It was fun and
I knew that this might be for me. I
asked for more information, but told her it would have to wait until I
re-retired.” She was patient and
answered my questions whenever I called and never pressured me about it. My niece hosted a show for me and it was at
her show that I decided that I could not wait but wanted to start right
now. I figured that I could start small
until I was ready to stop my full time job.
I told the Consultant to “sign me up” and feel that those were the best
three words I had spoken in quite awhile.
Instantly I had my home based business and got off to a great
start. I received the products to
demonstrate and a training packet in about 6 days and I was ready to go.
We learn that as we age we
need to “exercise our brain more.” I figure that the training and the office
work associated with The Pampered Chef (henceforth identified as PC) has been
awesome. I go online and try to learn a
little every day and spend about an hour doing that and the office work, which
I figure is my brain exercise for the day.
Setting up the shows keeps me physically active and it gets me out of
the house and interacting with others (sometimes a problem with retired people
who opt to stay at home). It certainly
helps that I like learning new things and absolutely love the products that PC
provides for me to sell. They also test
and provide the recipes that we use to demonstrate. So far every one of them has been delicious
and the guests rave about it and the products we use to make it easy. I am constantly thinking of new ways to
advertise my business and excite others about the products.
The nicest thing is that I
get paid to have fun. I can just do
shows or I can work on recruiting others to join me in the business. The number of shows I do is directly
proportionate to the about of extra $$$ I earn. The best part is I will get to
re-retire in 2010 without worrying that I will be bored or suffer from social
isolation, not to mention making a little spending money. What the PC has given me in terms of
confidence, fun, and compensation is PRICELESS”.
