I think everyone from 8 to
80 (and beyond) should have a computer so you will have to forgive me if wax
enthusiastically pretty often. I smiled
when I read a comment in the syndicated Dear Amy advice column from a 70 year
old woman. She took umbrage at the idea
put forth by a twenty something who said that seniors were “too old” to deal
with notebooks and facebook etc. The 70
year old went on to say that she was quite computer literate herself and that
many of her friends use the new techniques. All in all she felt quite capable,
despite being an antique.
She is right. Seniors make up one of the fastest growing
groups of users on the Web. Seniors,
contrary to popular opinion, are thrilled with modern technology and have embraced
the world of computers enthusiastically.
A generation of folks that have embraced radio, microwaves, television
and VCR’s are not too antiquated to take on new technology. Ready or not, computers are a mainstay for
all levels of American society. We may
not have been born with a silver keyboard in our cribs but that doesn’t mean
that we can’t learn new things.
Technology in home gadgets
has made life easer for many older adults and more research is being done each
day. Disabilities may challenge some
seniors, but an even bigger challenge is destroying the myth that older adults
are not capable of embracing new technology.
Hi Linda. I'm enjoying your website. One thing I really appreciate is that your font size is easy for me to read. Thanks and see you soon for lunch and a movie. Shirl
