Whether you suffer from
arthritis or degenerative joint changes in your hands you will fully appreciate
the term “user-friendly” when it comes to household tools.
I hate my vacuum cleaner so
I read the review by Heather Larson (Arthritis Today, March/April 2009) with
great interest. The top of the line
vacuum that has just about every feature imaginable is the Oreck XL. It is light weight, lays flat to clean under
furniture and allows you to push and pull with a light touch. Sounds perfect doesn’t it? The only drawback is the price ($449-799) as
I can’t imagine paying as much for a vacuum as I would for a week long
cruise. Still, my vacuum is really
heavy. Other vacuums reviewed were
lighter weight than the regular versions on the market, had some ergonomic
features and ranged in price from the $50 Hoover Nano-Lite, The $72 Eureka
Optima and the $400 Dyson DC24.
Another article, by Willa
Plank (The Wall Street Journal, Thursday, February 26, 2009) reviews Steam Mops
for those who can’t deal with old fashioned mops and pails of sudsy water. These mops clean hard floor surfaces with simple
steam. They all worked well on simple
spills and cleaning but considerable
elbow grease was needed for anything more challenging. These products did well at wiping away dirt
and spills and you do not have to wring out mops and wait for the floors to
dry. The items reviewed included the
Shark Steam Mop Deluxe, Steamboy T1 Steam Floor Mop, Bissell Steam Mop Hard
Floor Cleaner and the H2O Mop with prices ranging from $99-119,
