Senior Expressions
The world is made up of
interesting people. You are one of them
and you have a story to tell. You may
feel that your life is ordinary and really quite dull but that isn’t true at
all.
Some of our favorite
childhood story books were about ordinary people living ordinary lives. I can remember my mother reading to me. Some of my favorites were The Trees, The
Fields and The Town by Conrad Richter and I loved the stories by Laura Ingles
Wilder. They were stories of ordinary
people living ordinary lives and they have captivated the imagination of people
everywhere.
If you don’t tell your
story, your children and your grandchildren are never going to know you
are. No, you don’t have to have a degree
in English literature in order to write your story or share your thoughts. Sign up for a class at your local senior
center, join a group, keep a journal, buy a how-to book, or learn how to set up
a Blog. Sharpen your pencil, turn on
your computer, put on your glasses, and jump right in.
When you were working
outside of the home and raising your family you probably didn’t have much time
for self expression but you do now. Now
is your time.
You aren’t too old to learn
how to blog and what a worthwhile thing for seniors to do. Your grandkids will be so proud of you and
you will be excited too. This is your
chance to express yourself, get on your soapbox and just let other people know
that you are here.
Blogging, according to M.L.
Dehm (Herald, October 14, 2008) is growing in popularity among seniors. You can talk about anything that you are
interested in and find others who share your interests. I think you will find out that you have a
talent for this new form of communication.
It is easy to set up and many sites are absolutely free. It is just like writing an e-mail except you
may have more than one reader.
You are a part of
history. Tell your story.
