I’ve noticed that
conversation about exercise and travel are not usually mentioned in the same
breath. The best intentions are often
sabotaged while you are on vacation or traveling for business.
I will be the first to admit
that it doesn’t take much to sabotage our best intentions. When you are traveling your body is subject
to eating too many continental breakfasts, too many fast food lunches, and too
many rich sumptuous dinners complete with cocktails. Put this together with long days and too
little exercise and what do you have?
I’ll tell you what you have, five extra pounds and a guilty conscience
to take home with you.
We are going on
vacation. Believe it or not, I have
already checked to make sure that our hotel has a pool and small workout
room. In addition to that I have packed
my laptop, A.M. Yoga with Rodney Yee and my Oxycise Audio. My intentions are honorable. I have been known to yoga and oxycise on a
balcony in
Traveling can leave you
feeling more tired at the end of the trip than when you started, but scheduling
some time for yourself will make you feel more energetic and relaxed
(promise). Find the pool (if you don’t
want to get your hair wet, you can walk lengths of the pool). Find the fitness room (if the hotel doesn’t
have one they may recommend a nearby gym), take a walk, and besides your
fitness DVD’s you might pack a resistance band.
If you don’t have video’s to take with you, check on the cable stations
for one of those early morning workout programs.
Finding time for regular
workouts and making good food choices is no easy task. Make it a priority. Write it down in your planner. Even if you can’t exercise to the same degree
that you do at home, doing something is better than nothing. It doesn’t take much to maintain fitness.
Keeping fit while on the
road doesn’t have to be hard. Staying
active and trying to eat properly will make you feel good about yourself. Otherwise, have fun on your vacation.
